Arm’s Length Principle, 2024–

I photograph myself at home, within arm’s length. Holding the camera in my hand, I point the lens toward myself. Often, I cannot look through the viewfinder, which limits my control over the composition. The initial intention may or may not materialize as planned.

My body becomes an object of curiosity, approached in a way that departs from my habitual self-perception. Proximity is examined as both a form of exposure and a potential form of disguise: moving closer can obscure as much as it reveals. The camera is both intrusive and permissive, granting autonomy while forcing me to lose control. It introduces an element of randomness that creates slippages between intention and accident as well as concealment and exposure.
